Public Information Sessions on Proposed Windfarm in Isle of Man
A series of public information sessions is set to take place to inform residents about proposals for an onshore wind farm in the south of the Isle of Man.
Manx Utilities (MU) plans to install up to four turbines in Earystane Plantation, which would provide a quarter of the island’s annual electricity requirements.
The eight sessions, scheduled from October 19 to October 27, will feature senior MU officers and consultants who will update the public on the Cair Vie project and gather community feedback.
Chief Executive Phil King emphasized the importance of community engagement, stating that the project would impact residents across the island. He highlighted that the feedback received would play a crucial role in shaping the project’s development.
King noted that the proposals are still in the “development phase” and have yet to secure funding or enter the procurement stage. However, he expressed optimism about the wind speed data collected during the environmental impact assessment.
Plans for the wind farm are expected to be submitted in March. While local concerns have been voiced, King reiterated the value of including all community members in the discussion, asserting that constructive challenges could positively influence future designs.
He also stressed the importance of confidence in the planning process, which aims to support sustainable development while considering social, environmental, and economic factors.
The information sessions will be held on weekends from 12:00 to 16:00 BST at the following locations:
- Morton Hall, Castletown: October 19
- Douglas City Hall: October 20
- Peel Centenary Centre: October 26
- Ramsey Courthouse: October 27
Additional weekday sessions will run from 14:00 to 19:00 BST:
- Peel Centenary Centre: October 21
- Douglas City Hall: October 22
- Morton Hall: October 23
- Ramsey Courthouse: October 25
